Fluoride disks for precise, interproximal application

The most recent period of laryngitis and mandatory speech breaks gave me a chance to watch Netflix. However, my Netflix Carnival does not mean that I no longer have any desire or demand for traditional TV services, especially because I am a news fan.

Fluoride is the most commonly used prophylactic agent in dentistry. The Phocal® (Phocal Therapy) represents a major breakthrough in the prevention and treatment of the infection between the adjacent moles. This precise fluorine delivery system does not mean that no traditional fluoride system is needed. Just as Netflix offers us another option to watch TV, Phocal Disk offers us another alternative for fluoride applications.

Initial caries infection

The goal of annual occlusal radiographs is to detect carious lesions as early as possible. Dr. DDS, Margherita Fontana, professor of dentistry, dentistry and periodontics at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, defined early lesions as early lesions or leukoplakia lesions that have been demineralized and show no signs of cavitation.

(1) Although it is the standard for dental caries detection, bite scar radiographs tend to underestimate the depth of the lesion.
(2) Occurrence of lesions confined to the enamel on the image is actually usually found in the dentine.
(3) This often leads to delayed diagnosis because the display of lesions on X-rays requires at least 40% demineralization.
(4) This may lead to inadequate or inappropriate treatment. After all, 40% of demineralization is quite advanced for lesions!

New technologies, materials and procedures are constantly evolving for the early arrest and prevention of oral diseases. A new code has been added for the current dental terminology (CDT) 2017 for calibrating instruments that can help us monitor caries infection processes and cavitation. These instruments do not use ionizing radiation. The new code D0600 can be used for “non-ionizing diagnostic procedures that can quantify, monitor, and record structural changes in enamel, dentin, and cementum.”

Better than floss and traditional fluoride

Our traditional method of early lesions has been flossing and fluoride applications. This is not enough and often fails. What’s more, when the caries infection progresses, the patient is blamed for non-compliance.

(4) After the publication of the report, many dental professionals were dissatisfied with our long-standing traditions, but several systematic evaluations supported the report’s limitations on dental floss cleaning, in particular prevention of rickets infection.
(5) Another problem is the ineffective penetration of active agents. Due to the negative pressure between the teeth known as isocaps, the penetration of the active agent is significantly poorer in the interproximal space.
(6) isocap is a bubble generated between two planes to prevent liquid from entering.
(6) Basically, isocaps prevent traditional fluoride treatments from reaching between teeth.

Disc precise fluoride application

The disc is a semi-permeable fluoride contained in a unique disc form for insertion between teeth. They represent an accurate fluoride application system. Once positioned in interproximally, they destroy isocaps, then soften and expand to form a gel. The gel created by Phocal discs prevents and repairs microscopic, early-neighbor decays at the nanoscale and molecular levels.

The CD is the best choice for the treatment of early lesions. There are two types of Phocal disks, each containing 0.1135 mg of sodium fluoride:
• Phocal Apf acidified phosphate fluoride discs induce an optimized low pH environment to clean and etch tooth surfaces. They promote deep fluorine penetration and stimulate remineralization.
Phonic pHn non-acid sodium fluoride discs are less acidic and will not etch ceramic crowns or dental restorations. They also induce fluorination and remineralization.
Carious dental infections are multifactorial. The caries process relies on the interaction of salivary and protective and pathological factors in the biofilm of the plaque and the balance between carious and non-caries tooth populations living in saliva.

Studies have shown that treatment of early lesions with Phocal Fluoride Discs and Fluoride Varnishes proves to be the most beneficial. In other words, like Netflix and traditional TV, the combination of fluoridation therapy may be ideal.

Voco introduces V-Posil time-optimized VPS impression system

Laboratory technicians will appreciate that V-Posil’s unique rear set contact angle is less than 6°, providing post-hydrophilicity, ensuring a more accurate stone model, and better repairing the restoration.

Ultradent Products Inc. introduced Unicore Accessory Posts, part of the Unicore Post and Drill System. Designed for general dentists and endodontic therapists, Unicore accessory stents will be created in the root canal and placed along with the main post (eg Unicore Post). The Unicore Auxiliary Prop is designed to fill voids in the root canal, thereby increasing the overall strength of the core component. Adding attachment pillars can better accommodate flared and elliptical canals without the need for additional drilling procedures.

The Unicore Auxiliary Post has a tapered shaft for preserving dentine and enhances adaptability in a trumpet canal. This minimizes the formation of gaps and polymerization shrinkage. Unicore’s auxiliary struts are stronger than composite resins, providing reinforcement for both internal and external repairs. They are highly transparent for optimal aesthetics and light guidance, and they are also radiopaque, making them easy to see in radiographs.
